Antidumping & Countervailing Control
In the realm of international trade, anti-dumping and countervailing duties are specific trade remedies designed to counteract unfair trade practices and protect domestic industries from harm caused by foreign competition considered "unfair." Both are essentially additional import taxes levied on goods, but they address different types of unfairness.
Main Scope of Antidumping
& Countervailing Control
Dumping
Occurs when a foreign company sells products in an importing country at a price lower than its "normal value" (domestic price, third-country price, or constructed value).
Anti-Dumping (AD) Duty
A tariff imposed to counteract dumped goods that harm or threaten domestic industries, raising prices to fair market value.
Countervailing Duty (CVD)
A tariff imposed on subsidized goods that injure domestic industries, neutralizing the price advantage created by the subsidy
Subsidies
Financial benefits from an exporting country's government, such as grants, tax breaks, or price support, giving exporters an unfair advantage.
