Export Control
Export control refers to the laws and regulations established by governments that govern the transfer or disclosure of certain goods, software, technology, and even services to foreign countries or foreign nationals, regardless of whether a physical item crosses a border. The primary purpose of export controls is to safeguard national security interests, prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, promote foreign policy objectives, and protect sensitive technologies.
Unlike general customs clearance, which focuses on duties, taxes, and general legality of imports and exports, export controls specifically target items that could have military applications ("dual-use items") or are inherently military in nature. These regulations aim to prevent such items from falling into the wrong hands or being used for purposes contrary to the exporting country's interests.
