The United States and Taiwan have reached a landmark trade agreement aimed at deepening economic ties, boosting investment, and strengthening supply chains in critical technology sectors.
🔹 Tariff Reductions & Trade Rules
- U.S. will cut reciprocal tariffs on Taiwanese imports to a maximum of 15% (down from ~20%), aligning Taiwan’s tariff treatment with major partners like Japan and the EU.
- Certain products – including generic pharmaceuticals and aircraft components – may receive zero‐tariff treatment.
🔹 Strategic Investment Commitments
- Taiwanese semiconductor, AI, energy, and related tech firms will commit at least US$250 billion in direct investment in U.S. manufacturing, research, and supply chains.
- Taiwan’s government will provide credit guarantees of at least US$250 billion to support those investments.
🔹 Supply Chain & National Security
The deal is designed to reshore and diversify semiconductor and AI production, enhance economic resilience, create high-value jobs, and reduce reliance on adversarial sources.
In summary: A strategic, technology-focused trade pact that lowers tariffs, unlocks major investment into U.S. industry, and anchors a deeper U.S.–Taiwan economic partnership.
