USA–Argentina Sign Groundbreaking Reciprocal Trade and Investment Agreement

The United States and Argentina have reached a significant bilateral trade and investment agreement, marking a major development in economic relations between the two countries. The accord, signed on February 5, 2026, is built on a framework initially agreed in November 2025 and formalizes enhanced reciprocal market access, tariff liberalization, and regulatory cooperation across a broad range of sectors.

Under the agreement, Argentina will provide preferential access to U.S. goods, reducing and eliminating tariffs on key exports including medicines, medical devices, chemicals, machinery, information technology products, and agricultural commodities. Argentina has also agreed to recognize U.S. safety and regulatory standards and will simplify export processes for products such as beef, pork, and poultry.

In return, the United States will remove reciprocal tariffs on more than 1,600 Argentine products, including natural resources and pharmaceutical inputs, potentially generating upward of US$1 billion in additional export revenue for Argentina.

The agreement goes beyond tariff reductions, including expanded cooperation on digital trade, intellectual property protection, and economic security, as well as commitments on data flows and export controls.

Officials from both nations have framed the deal as a strategic enhancement of bilateral economic ties, reflecting shared goals of increased trade, investment, and regulatory alignment. Businesses and regulatory stakeholders should monitor the legislative ratification processes in both countries, as successful implementation could reshape market access and supply chain dynamics across the Western Hemisphere.
